Obi-Wan Kenobi Showrunner Reveals How Show's Story Begins

Excitement is slowly building as we inch closer to Obi-Wan Kenobi's premiere day and fans are beyond ready to witness what's being billed as the "rematch of the century". It's common knowledge to fans of Star Wars that Obi-Wan suffers from PTSD in the original trilogy but we've barely scratched the surface with regard to his condition and what actually led to it.

Unsurprisingly, the upcoming series will delve into the Jedi Master's true state following the aftermath of Order 66 and his protege succumbing to the Dark Side of the Force.

Obi-Wan Kenobi showrunner Michelle Rejwan reveals that the Ewan McGregor-led show will see the titular character in a very dark place. Speaking with SFX Magazine, Rejwan shared:

"[We find him in] a pretty traumatic moment, where he’s lost so much, where he’s been hiding, where his apprentice and brother, Anakin, has gone to the Dark Side, and he’s been living with that for a decade. We’re really finding him in a place where he’s quite lost, and Ewan was a major part of that conversation."

She continued: "Because he and Anakin Skywalker are such important characters to Obi-Wan, in the shadow of the events of Revenge Of The Sith. He’s living with how things were left with Anakin on Mustafar, leaving him to die in an incredibly tragic way, because he had no choice. He’s been living with quite a bit of guilt and reflection over this period."

Judging by the stuff we've seen from the trailer released last month, it looks like Obi-Wan has somehow maintained his sanity post-prequel trilogy and it would be safe to assume that his personal struggles and torment will begin to unfold in the show. It's not going to be for the faint of heart, that's for sure.

The first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi will begin streaming on May 27th, exclusively on Disney+.
