Obi-Wan Kenobi Set to Feature Star Wars' Next Baby Yoda-esque Character

The Star Wars universe has had its fair share of lovable side characters since its inception in 1977 — from the original trilogy's R2-D2 to the sequels' cutesy Porgs but there's no denying that one fellow has taken the franchise by storm as its most captivating character and that's none other than The Mandalorian's Baby Yoda aka Grogu.

In fact, the Force-wielding Child has somewhat served as the face of Star Wars merchandising over the last couple of years which pretty much speaks volumes about his cultural impact.

But it looks like the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series is determined to give Grogu a run for his money and according to a new rumor, the Ewan McGregor-led show will introduce a new "adorable" character that will play a major role in the project. Star Wars News Net reports that Obi-Wan will debut a bug-like character that will serve as Leia Organa's protector.

The outlet reports: "It's adorable, like a little bug that hovers over her to protect her. This new character is intended to capture the audience as the next big cute Star Wars character, following recent ones like Grogu, Babu Frik, and D-O. It has a circular shape, almost like an old flying saucer, with white and red colors."

We still don't know whether this new character will be a living creature or a droid but judging by the outlet's description, it sounds more like the latter. The real question is, will it be able to match or even surpass Grogu's popularity?

The first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi will begin streaming on May 27th, exclusively on Disney+.
