Obi-Wan Kenobi: Rupert Friend Reportedly Playing The Grand Inquisitor

When the cast for Obi-Wan Kenobi was announced last year, we find out that some familiar faces who appeared in the prequel films will be part of the series as well as new faces who are joining the franchise although the exact details of their roles were kept under wraps. Now, it looks like we have information regarding the role of one of the new cast members.

According to Bespin Bulletin, Rupert Friend will be playing The Grand Inquisitor, who is making his live-action debut in the franchise, in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series. They also reported that Sung Kang and Moses Ingram will also be playing an Inquisitor. The former is playing an Inquisitor that requires him to wear a headpiece similar to the Fifth Brother while the latter will be playing a new and unseen Inquisitor.

The report also indicated that Ingram will be playing the most important Inquisitor out of the three and she could be the most pivotal one to the plot point within the series. However, we do have to take note that this news has not been confirmed by Lucasfilm nor reported by the major trades so we have to take this with a grain of salt.

If the report is true, it is very interesting that the Grand Inquisitor will be making an appearance in Obi-Wan Kenobi even though his fate has already seemingly sealed in Star Wars: Rebels. Either way, it is exciting that the character will be making his live-action appearance and it is interesting to see what he will look like especially with Friend playing him.

It is surprising though that Jason Isaacs, who voiced him in the animated series, will not play him in live-action unless there was some sort of scheduling conflict that made it impossible for him to do it. He did jokingly address the possibility of him playing the character in live-action during an interview a few months ago where he said that he "can't acknowledge" it as he "signed so many NDAs." Despite that, Friend is still a great choice as he has proven in some of his past roles that he can wonderfully play a character like The Grand Inquisitor.
