Earlier this week, a rumor made the rounds online revealing that Disney plans to "erase" the sequel trilogy from canon by using the Veil of the Force from Star Wars Rebels. It's no secret that everyone isn't a fan of the sequel trilogy, hence clinging to the rumor. However, in spite of the support that this has received from a portion of the fandom, Disney isn't planning to erase the sequel trilogy.

That is according to LRM Online, who have reached out to their source at Lucasfilm to ask about the rumor's validity. The outlet says Lucasfilm isn't actively seeking to "nullify their own timeline through multiverse means."

With The Rise of Skywalker being the final installment of the Skywalker Saga, the studio is putting the beloved saga behind them to move on to different projects. Aside from The Mandalorian, there are a few Star Wars shows already in the works for Disney+, aiming to explore different points in the timeline without having to cross over into the sequel trilogy timeline. Not to mention the movies being developed by Taika Waititi and Rian Johnson, likely to be something much different than what has been seen in the franchise so far.

The outlet points out that Lucasfilm isn't frantically trying to "paint over the past." "The future is just that: the future," LRM notes, adding that there's no reason to rehash what has been made no matter how much fans want it to be true, considering all the work and talent they have for a whole new era of Star Wars.

Rather than "wallow in any disappointments of the past," the outlet urges fans to celebrate the franchise's future and the potential it bears.
