While it is still a bit over two months before the show’s release, a new Nier Automata anime preview was shared online featuring the fan-favorite character, Pascal.
This new teaser was uploaded on the official Aniplex YouTube channel as well as the show’s Twitter account.
While it’s a short preview, it gives us a new look at Pascal, the pacifist machine.
Nier Automata Anime Announcement
In case you missed it, the Nier Automata anime (officially entitled NieR:Automata Ver1.1a) is an upcoming anime by A-1 Pictures that was announced at the Aniplex Online Fest back in September.
The anime is based on the video game of the same name by Square Enix which was released back in 2017. It is directed by renowned game director, Yoko Taro.
The action RPG game was developed by Platinum Games and is the sequel to 2010’s Nier which was released for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Yoko Taro’s Nier games also serve as sequels/spin-offs of his Drakengard RPG series.
Based on the teasers, it seems that the anime will adapt the game’s full story as it features the same cast. Though it remains to be seen if it will stick closely to the source material or if there will be some differences.
Nier Automata Anime Preview Featuring Pascal
Pascal is featured in the new preview video for the anime, indicating that the show is confirmed to cover the events where main characters 2B and 9S visit Pascal’s village.
If you’re unfamiliar with its story, Nier Automata is set in the far future where humanity has long been gone from Earth, specifically in the year 11945 AD.
The game follows 2B and 9S, two YoRHa androids that were made by humans.
In the game’s present day, the world is the stage of a proxy war between YoRHa androids and machines from another world.
The goal of YoRHa is to eradicate machines from Earth so that the remaining humans that are hiding on the moon can return to the planet.
Nier Automata Anime Cast and Release Date
The upcoming Nier Automata anime stars Yuuki Aoi as Pascal. Aoi is known as the voice of Tsuyu Asui in My Hero Academia, as well as Mami Nanami in Rent-A-Girlfriend.
Aoi joins the returning voice actors from the game, including:
- 2B – Yui Ishikawa
- 9S – Natsuki Hanae
- Pod 042 – Hiroyuki Yasumoto
- Pod 153 – Kaoru Akiyama
- Keiko Isobe – Operator 6O
- Meari Hatsumi – Operator 21O
- Chiaki Kano – YoRHa Commander

The Nier Automata anime is scheduled to release sometime in January 2023. Right now though, there’s no word yet on a specific release date.
