Nicole Kidman Shuts Down Criticism About Atlanna's Age In Aquaman

There is little doubt that Nicole Kidman looks amazing as Queen Atlanna in Aquaman yet the Big Little Lies actress has been criticized for "not being old enough" to play Jason Momoa's mother. Interestingly, Kidman has the perfect response to the criticism.

Kidman recently spoke to Variety about her HBO series as well as the DC Extended Universe flick. The 51-year-old actress shrugged off comments about her being too young to play the 39-year-old Momoa's character.

"In the context of the superhero world, it all evens out. Atlanna doesn't really age," Kidman explained.

It makes perfect sense. After all, we don't really know much about Atlantean biology but it's possible that they don't age as quickly as humans. In addition to that, Kidman is expected to appear in the first part of Aquaman showing the DC character's origin story, not when he is a grown man.

Although criticism about her age is inescapable, Kidman admits she had fun working on Aquaman. The Moulin Rouge! star confessed that she accepted the role because she wanted to work with director James Wan. Kidman also shares a minor spoiler: "I ate a goldfish in the movie." She later reveals that although her "kids were thrilled," she didn't actually eat a real goldfish.

Taking on the role of Queen Atlanna was certainly an easy segue for Kidman. After all, she has previously appeared in the Joel Schumacher flick Batman Forever as Dr. Chase Meridian. Although she was awesome as the psychologist, it's easy to see that Kidman is a great fit for the Queen of Atlantis.

Aquaman hits theaters on December 21.
