Nicolas Cage Reveals Why He Turned Down Roles in Lord of The Rings and The Matrix

Hollywood vet Nicolas Cage is back on the big screens in Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, a new comedy flick that will premiere this month. While this comedy film isn't something that the actor usually stars in, Cage is always followed by rumors about some major castings in well-acclaimed franchises. Most recently, Cage revealed that he almost starred in both famed franchises; Lord of The Rings and The Matrix, but had to decline the roles for the sweetest reason.

In an interview with PEOPLE, Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent star Nicolas Cage reveals that family will always be his first priority.

Cage explained, "First and foremost ... there's no version of Nic Cage in reality that doesn't want to spend time with his children," the actor says. "There's no version of Nic Cage that didn't put family first over career. I turned down Lord of the Rings and I turned down Matrix because I didn't want to go to New Zealand for three years or Australia for three years because I needed to be home with my son Weston, that's a fact."

"So there is a huge disparity between that Nick Cage in Massive Talent and the Nic Cage sitting in front of you right now," Nic Cage added.

Cage's real-life son Weston is now 31, and Kal-El is now 16. Cage's wife Riko Shibata is also pregnant for their third child.

It's good to know that the character that Cage is portraying in the film is entirely opposite to the actor's real life. Cage's decision to decline some major roles and be a present father is very admiring and it certainly paid off. However, we can't wait to see Nicolas Cage in major roles again, such as his return to the MCU as Ghost Rider, which has been a hot topic for Marvel fans. Cage's latest project Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent pokes fun at Cage's previous films and iconic characters. Alongside Cage, the film also features Pedro Pascal, Tiffany Haddish, Neil Patrick Harris, Ike Barinholtz, and Sharon Horgan.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent will premiere in theaters on April 22.
