New Star Wars Episode IX Set Photos Tease Return of the Jedi Homage

Star Wars: Episode IX is coming to theaters next December and fans are craving for details on the current trilogy's finale. We know that most of the cast from The Last Jedi will be returning along with Billy Bee Williams as Lando Calrissian but not much else aside from that. Even with these new set photos, we can't say for sure what will be happening in next years movie.

John Boyega shared some photos of himself in Jordan (thanks Making Star Wars) which has fans thinking that this is where a number of the film's scenes are made. Soon enough, we got more concrete set photos that tease some Return of the Jedi influences.

Boyega will continue having a lead role in this movie, though Rey and Kylo Ren are clearly the main characters. Still, we can only hope that Finn's adventures don't feel like filler this time around.

With rumors that the movie will be similar to Return of the Jedi, similar to how The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi were similar to A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back respectively, fans are theorizing on what locations we'll see in this movie. Fans are expecting a forest-like area, which we see, though it doesn't look like we will be getting the equivalent of Ewoks in this film, at least not yet.

Considering how little we know about the upcoming movie, we can only really put the pieces together when Disney and Lucasfilm decide to release a trailer or new images. These set photos prove that a Return of the Jedi homage is coming but we don't know how far they will go with the tribute. For now, all we know about the movie is that it's a sequel to The Last Jedi and will be directed by JJ Abrams.

Star Wars: Episode IX comes out on December 20, 2019.
