Mark Hamill Addresses That Popular Freddy Kreuger Star Wars Urban Legend

The Star Wars franchise has a lot of interesting stories regarding its various movies' productions, and for years word has been going around that Freddy Krueger actor Robert Englund had actually been responsible for the casting of Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker.

Now, after being approached by a Star Wars fan with a "fun fact" post saying that Englund had pushed Hamill to audition for the iconic role of the young Jedi, Mark Hamill has decided to set the record straight.

Taking to Twitter to respond to the fan who brought to him the rumor that he had been sleeping on Englund's couch at the time, the Star Wars legend revealed that the Freddy Kreuger star had actually been one of the many actors who told him about George Lucas' new film.

Check out the tweet down here:

However, the credit should have gone to Hamill's agent who had already known about the film and had already set up the audition for him. Hamill also denies sleeping on Kreuger's couch, saying that he had already been acting before Star Wars and had his own apartment to boot.

While the rumor isn't entirely true, it still makes for an interesting urban legend. Imagine, the great Mark Hamill sleeping on the couch of another actor, finally making his big break after Freddy Kreuger convinced him to try out for Lucas' upcoming film. It's a sensational story – and it's no wonder that it's become quite the urban legend.

We can't wait to see Hamill again when Star Wars: Episode IX premieres on December 20, 2019.
