A newly released Star Wars comic titled Age of Resistance - Rey #1 tells the story of Rey as she talks to Leia Organa with regards to witnessing Han Solo's death. Written by Tom Taylor with Ramon Rosanas as the artist, the story is set between The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.

Bounding Into Comics suggests that this comic teases a retcon of Empire Strikes
Back
and Return of the Jedi, all the while "adding fuel" to rumors surrounding Rey and Palpatine's connections.

Seen in the preview page is Poe Dameron with General Organa, discussing Rey's journey in finding Luke as he is their only hope. Leia assures Poe that Rey will find him, adding that Luke isn't actually their only hope for "there is another". Leia is pertaining to Rey, as the comics panel shows her with Chewie in the Millenium Falcon.

This leads to a connection with The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Wherein Luke left Dagobah to save his friends as Obi-Wan tells Yoda that he was their last hope. "No. There is another", Yoda responds. Much like Leia did.

It was then revealed that the ‘other' points to Luke's twin sister, Leia. Luke figured this out and Obi-Wan confirms this saying, "Your insight serves you well. Bury your feelings deep down, Luke. They do you credit, but they could be made to serve the Emperor." As Obi-Wan shares the happenings that resulted in getting both of them separated at birth.

The prophecy of the Chosen One was always mentioned throughout the film, as the previous conversation of Luke and Obi-Wan suggests. Luke is seen as the Chosen One yet Yoda tells them that this could be a misread prophecy.

The prophecy actually might have pertained to Anakin being the Chosen One. Seeing how Darth Vader protected his son from being tortured by Emperor Palpatine, ultimately defeating him.

Rey comes in through rumors saying that none of the aforementioned people were the Chosen One. For she is in fact, the Chosen One after all. Palpatine is also hinted to be coming back in the Rise of the Skywalker.

Putting all of these together, it is rumored that Palpatine's spirit is inside the Wayfinder. He then finds his way on somehow, possessing Ren. Palpatine tries to kill Rey but is struggling because of an internal conflict with Ren as he asks to just kill him then and there. This ends with Rey permanently killing Palpatine.

If the previously mentioned comic along with these rumors are true, it's not gonna look good for both Star Wars and Lucasfilms as it completely shifted from George Lucas' original trilogy.

Fans may find this extremely disappointing since they have been expecting a much-deserved conclusion to the trilogy.

Personally, I think this might cause quite a stir and likely a division amongst the long-time fans of the franchise. Considering that, if confirmed, the story could end up in shambles.

Age of Resistance - Rey #1 and Age of Resistance - Rose Tico #1 are now available for purchase.
