After its reveal back in December, the new Pokemon anime finally revealed a new visual as well as a release date. The new visual gives us a better look at the new main characters and the starter Pokemon.
The Pokemon anime has been ongoing since the late 90s, though this latest series promises to be the biggest game-changer.
After all, it will be the first Pokemon anime in history to not feature Ash Ketchum as the protagonist.
Ash Ketchum No Longer the Protagonist
Ever since the series began back in 1997, the Pokemon anime has consistently followed Ash Ketchum on his journey across the various Pokemon regions.
While Ash’s mysterious lack of aging continues to be a mystery, this hasn’t stopped fans from becoming invested in his quest to be the very best (like no one ever was).
Finally, Ash Ketchum become the champion in November 2022 as he bested the top masters of the world in Pokemon Ultimate Journeys: The Series.
Following his win, fans all over the world celebrated as Ash finally fulfilled his dream from over 20 years ago.
Though this also heralds a major change in the franchise, as Ash will finally pass the torch to new Pokemon trainers.
Back in December, The Pokemon Company announced that the next anime series will no longer feature Ash Ketchum as the protagonist.
Instead, he will be replaced by two new characters who will begin their journey in the Paldea region.

New Pokemon Anime Release Date, Details
The first announcement back in December only revealed one key visual. Now though, new details about the upcoming anime were revealed.
To start, there’s a new key visual highlighting the characters and the three starter Pokemon.
These Pokemon are Fuecoco, Sprigatito, and Quaxly. They serve as the three starters in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, the latest game in the long-running franchise.
Along with the visual, a closer look at the new characters, Riko and Roy, was also shown. Check them out here:
Riko is expected to be the show’s main character alongside Roy. She is described as a character that holds a “mysterious pendant.”
Aside from this info though, there are no details yet about her history and personality.
What we do know is that the new Pokemon anime will be released on April 14, 2023.
Right now, there’s no word yet on which platform it will be streamed on outside Japan.
Though given that the series got an official English language announcement, you can expect the show to be released internationally as well.
