New J.J. Abrams Star Trek Film Set for 2023 Release


The long wait for another Star Trek movie is almost over. A new report confirms that Paramount Pictures has revealed that a new film is in the works and will be released in 2023. In addition to that, the upcoming project will be produced by J.J. Abrams.

Deadline has just reported about the new release dates for Paramount Pictures' movies. Interestingly, one of the new projects confirmed is a yet-untitled Star Trek film is scheduled for June 9, 2023.

Paramount had previously put any plans for a Star Trek film on hold. However, several projects were reportedly in development including one being produced by Quentin Tarantino and the Noah Hawley project. However, io9 confirms that the one that has been given the greenlight is one that's being produced by Abrams.

There were previous reports that the new Star Trek film is being written by Star Trek: Discovery producer Kalinda Vazquez. However, io9 reports that "this is not the Vazquez script" and will be "a separate J.J. Abrams-produced Trek film."

For now, it is unclear if this means that Paramount is pursuing the Kelvin timeline yet again. However, fans are hoping that the new Star Trek movie is the highly anticipated Star Trek 4 which will bring back Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth. Details are still being kept top secret but we're hoping we'll be getting some awesome updates soon.
