Lucasfilm has the opportunity to turn things around for Rey Skywalker and redeem the character following the catastrophic Star Wars sequel trilogy.
Last year, it was officially announced that Daisy Ridley will be returning to a galaxy far, far away and this time, she'll be fulfilling her promise to Luke Skywalker.
As it stands, key details about the Ridley's comeback film have yet to be disclosed but that hasn't stopped the rumor mill from spinning. Now, a new report sheds light on the film's status and what it actually means to the future of the franchise.

Star Wars: New Jedi Order Film Reportedly Won't Start New Trilogy
According to Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman, the yet-to-be-titled project helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is currently in the process of casting three characters: Rey's two Jedi apprentices and a villain.
He added that the project will begin filming in the UK later this year, although a production window wasn't disclosed.
Richtman also dispelled rumors that the film will kickstart a brand new trilogy headlined by the next generation of Jedi. The scooper claims that Rey's New Jedi Order flick will be a standalone project.
While Richtman has been reliable in the past, this new rumor should still be taken with a huge grain of salt. In the end, the ball is still in Lucasfilm's court and the final say will always come from the company.

So far, the fandom's reception of Ridley's Star Wars comeback has been mixed but hopefully, the people involved in the film will be able to create a compelling project that will right the wrongs of the sequels.
