New Hellboy David Harbour Didn't Want to 'Imitate Ron Perlman'

The upcoming Hellboy reboot has garnered some controversy, thanks to the previous two-part film duology that still has fans. It's easy to see why since it had Guillermo del Toro as a director and Ron Perlman as its lead actor, so everyone can see why fans are a little apprehensive when discussing this new iteration. Still, you have to give David Harbour props; he got in shape for the role and isn't looking to burn any bridges.

Speaking with Empire Online, Harbour brought up how Perlman did a great job as the original Hellboy and he isn't trying to imitate that classic performance. While Perlman's Hellboy was an experienced agent of the BPRD already, Harbour's will be younger and more brash, with the Stranger Things actor even saying that he's kind of like a teenager.

"[Perlman] does something quite extraordinary in those films that is very specific to him, and I did not want to imitate that in any way. In our movie Hellboy's younger. He's rougher. He's much more of a teenager. He's really struggling with the idea of whether or not he's a good person."

We also have a great new image of Hellboy, showing that the makeup department of this film is top-notch. This might be blasphemous to say but this version of the character looks a bit better than the del Toro version. Then again, we're in 2019 so that's not a fair comparison. Let's hope that the movie's story is just as good as its visuals.
