New Harry Potter Content Confirmed By HBO Max Head of Originals

Decades have passed since the Harry Potter franchise officially ended and yet Potterheads remain to live through the fandom, so much so that they were banned to leave any more trinkets, especially socks, on Dobby’s memorial beach. Recently, Warner Bros. is in talks of creating more Harry Potter content aside from the Fantastic Beasts and it looks like the HBO Max Head of Originals Sarah Aubrey is confirming they’re already in talks for future development.

When asked on Variety which series HBO Max Head Aubrey was planning to produce, a number of them included the It prequel series, the second season of And Just Like That…, and of course, the best IP Warner Bros. has had over the years: Harry Potter. Read Aubrey’s full quote below:

“We’re very much in the business of creating new content for those [Wizarding World] fans and thinking what to do next.”

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav previously mentioned they have plans to do more Harry Potter movies where J.K. Rowling is involved more in the process for a set of new projects. Zaslaf also said that even though they haven’t done Superman or Harry Potter movies in 15 years, both franchises provided a lot of profit for Warner Bros. Motion Pictures.

If HBO Max Head Sarah Aubrey’s work as a producer and development executive has taught her of any changes in shaping the success in the industry, she shares what exactly is being measured when it comes to success on television viewership.

“We look at different metrics for success: How many people — how many new viewers — did a show bring in? How many total viewers watched a series? And did it reduce churn? Then what is the retention value? Raw viewership data is no longer the mark of success of a streaming service. Show performance means different things inside different businesses, and that, too, is just not an equal playing field.”

Considering the underwhelming success of the Fantastic Beasts franchise, it is only logical for WB to rely more on their other means of viewership like the continuous support for the Harry Potter franchise and upcoming DC films. As for what exactly will be the new potential upcoming Harry Potter content, stay tuned for more updates on this story.

All Harry Potter movies are currently streaming on Peacock.
