New George R.R. Martin Sci-Fi Project in Development

It's no secret that there are several Game of Thrones projects in development right now. However, it looks like there's another George R.R. Martin book that is getting a film but it's not set in the world of Westeros.

According to Variety, Exile Content Studio has procured the film rights to Hunter’s Run, a novel by George R.R. Martin, Daniel Abraham, and Gardner Dozois. Kodachrome director Mark Raso is attached to helm the film based on an English-language script he co-wrote with his brother Joseph. The brothers will also serve as executive producers alongside Martin and Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon producer Vince Gerardis.

Martin shared his excitement for the new project.

“I’m so pleased that after almost 16 years, Hunter’s Run will be made into a film. I’m bursting with excitement for the rich sci-fi universe I helped create with my dear friends Daniel and Gardner to exist beyond the pages of our book,” he said in a statement.

Hunter's Run follows Ramón Espejo, a day laborer on the distant planet of São Paulo which he finds no better than Earth. Although he escapes, Ramon later finds himself on the run for the murder of an interplanetary diplomat.

The book is the only science fiction story that George R.R. Martin has ever written that features a Latino and it's an ideal choice for Exile Content which is known for its Spanish and English projects. Needless to say, the film is an exciting project to look forward to and we can't wait to get more details about it soon.

In the meantime, George R.R. Martin is also busy with other projects, most of which are connected to Game of Thrones. In addition to being involved with House of the Dragon Season 2, he is expected to take part in Snow, the sequel series that will follow Jon Snow. Moreover, Martin is still finishing The Winds of Winter, the sixth novel in his A Song of Ice and Fire book series.
