New Dune Still Revealed to Celebrate World Premiere at Venice Film Festival

It's finally official. Dune will get its world premiere at the 78th Venice International Film Festival this September. To celebrate, we got a new still from the film featuring Timothée Chalamet's Paul Atreides and his most important allies.

It was previously reported that Dune is one of the favorites to be screened at the Venice Film Festival. However, since the event takes place in September, it would mean that the world premiere will be happening a full month before its theatrical release.

Interestingly, the world premiere has been made official. La Biennale di Venezia has confirmed that Dune will screen during the Venice Film Festival in the Sala Grande at the Palazzo del Cinema on the Lido di Venezia. However, the reboot will not be competing for any of the main prizes at the event. The site also shared a new still from the film. Check it out below.

This is welcome news considering that Dune was expected to be Legendary Pictures' major event last December. Unfortunately, the film had to be pushed back due to COVID-19 and Warner Bros. decided that it would get a theatrical and digital release on HBO Max.

The official synopsis for Dune reads as follows:

"A mythic and emotionally charged hero's journey, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people.
"As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet's exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity's greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive."

Dune will also star Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Sharon Duncan Brewster, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, Chang Chen, David Dastmalchian, with Charlotte Rampling, with Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem.

The world premiere of Dune will be at the Venice Film Festival on September 3, 2021. It is then set to premiere in selected theaters and on HBO Max on October 1, 2021.
