While many were hoping for a FighterZ sequel, Dragon Ball fans were still treated to an exciting game announcement. Recently, a new Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi game has been announced, and it will be the first installment in the series in over a decade.
The game was announced during the recent Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2023 event in Las Vegas.
There, a new trailer for the upcoming Budokai Tenkaichi entry was revealed, though not a lot of details are known right now.
Dragon Ball Games and Budokai Tenkaichi
Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball is one of the most iconic shonen manga of all time.
Aside from inspiring a globally popular anime, the Dragon Ball franchise has also expanded to other mediums, including games.
Over the past decades, new Dragon Ball games have continuously been developed and released.
One of the most popular titles in the past years is Dragon Ball: FighterZ, a fighting game that continues to enjoy a big fanbase.
It has been years since FighterZ was released. Because of this, many fans were hoping for a sequel announcement at the recent Battle Hour event. After all, the event featured a major FighterZ tournament.
Instead of the sequel that many hoped for though, a new Budokai Tenkaichi game was revealed.
But fans weren’t disappointed as many were pleasantly surprised by this announcement.
The Budokai Tenkaichi games aren’t exactly popular now since the last entry was released way back in 2012.
However, it remains to be a beloved series, especially for Dragon Ball fans who grew up in the PS2 era.

New Budokai Tenkaichi Game Revealed
Finally, a new mainline entry is going to be released as a new Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi was announced via a teaser trailer.
This trailer begins with footage from an older game in the series on a CRT TV.
It then transitions into Goku powering up to his Super Saiyan Blue form, with the footage seemingly taken from the upcoming game.

Aside from the trailer, there’s no info on the game yet, though fans expect this game to be Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 4.
Based on the other games in the series, fans also expect this game to feature a story mode that lets players experience the Dragon Ball story from Z until the Super series.
For now, we may have to wait a while for more official info to be released, including gameplay details and release date.
