New Details Revealed On How Luke's Lightsaber Ended Up In Maz's Castle

Star Wars: The Force Awakens left so many unanswered questions by the end of the movie, and one of the biggest ones were how Luke's lightsaber ended up in the hands of Maz Kanata. Thanks to the Aftermath novel, Empire's End, fans may get a clue as to how Rey (Daisy Ridley) ran into the saber in Takodana.

Star Wars Explained on Youtube had pointed out that the Aftermath novel had Lando Calirissian returning to Cloud City to kick out the remaining Imperial forces. It was also mentioned that he was looking for a gift to give Han Solo's firstborn son. It's possible that Lando may have recovered the lightsaber himself, seeing as it was lost in Bespin in Empire Strikes Back.

But then, you could ask how the saber got to Maz Kanata? Lego Star Wars also has a scene that revealed that Lando and Maz are actually good friends, which could link Maz to Luke's saber. Some may think that the Lego games don't really count as canon, but seeing as the C-3PO expansion story where he got his red arm is close to the comic, it's very likely that the Maz-Lando friendship is canon as well — just told in the form of a goofy Lego story.

All of this is still speculation, but it is a high possibility that Lando could be the one who recovered the lightsaber in Bespin. Then again, it could have been retrieved by Ugnaughts in the smelting room and sold in the black market. Hopefully, The Last Jedi will give fans the answer.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will hit theaters Dec. 15.
