New 'Beautiful' Trailer for Godzilla: King of Monsters

The marketing for Godzilla: King of Monsters had struck gold when they came up with a monster movie trailer using classical music—specifically Debussy's Clair de Lune. The second trailer didn't have any of those elements, but it looks like they're sort of bringing it back with this new trailer titled Beautiful.

I don't know, but there's just something oddly cathartic about watching gigantic monsters gracing the screen with somber music playing. This time we have Somewhere Over the Rainbow playing in the background, and it kind of evokes the same feeling that the first trailer had.

While the first Godzilla reboot got mixed reviews when it came out, it seemed that Legendary's ‘Monsterverse' had found its footing with Kong: Skull Island. Now we have a new film coming with 4 times the monsters, and it will all be building up to a clash between Godzilla and King Kong in 2020.

Fingers crossed this film gets enough box office attention that it doesn't derail the rest of the franchise. We know that's been happening too often what with films like Solo: A Star Wars Story and Universal's Dark Universe. At least, for now, we can take solace that the trailers look amazing.

The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity's very existence hanging in the balance.

Godzilla: King of Monsters comes out May 31.
