New Aladdin Still Gives Us a Look at the Sultan

We had just recently gotten a lot of new images for Disney's live-action version of Aladdin, but we have yet to see Navid Negahban as Jasmine's father the Sultan. Thanks to DisInsider, we get our first look at the somewhat incompetent ruler of Agrabah.

While the original version of the Sultan was clad in all white, this look is going for a more colorful approach. No doubt Sultan is going to have a bunch more costumes in the show, but they did decide to keep his large beard and fancy white turban. It would also be cool if they managed to keep his silly quirks from the cartoon.

Looking at the scene, it's possible that the Sultan could be an art collector of some sorts. Besides all the statues and fancy paintings, you'll also notice a picture of Jafar right behind Jasmine. It hasn't been confirmed, but I think this is supposed to be a jab at Jafar's ego, with him gifting the Sultan a portrait of himself.

With the movie set to come out in May, I'm curious when Disney is actually going to drop the full trailer for Aladdin. I would think that they would have dropped it along with the new images that have been released, but maybe they're saving it for a reveal in the New Year or maybe sometime late January.

Your guess is as good as mine.

Catch Aladdin in theaters May 24, 2019.
