The upcoming Netflix series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance has already been confirmed to be a prequel to the 1982 Jim Henson classic. However, it looks like the 10-part prequel show is also getting a prequel comic book series of its own, thanks to Boom Studios.
The publisher announced Jim Henson's The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, a 12-issue series that will follow the events before the rebellion that takes place in the Netflix show (via io9). The comics will be written by Nicole Andelfinger and illustrated by Matias Basla, while the cover art was created by Mona Finden.
Here's the variant cover for the first issue that was designed by Kelly and Nichole Matthews.
Andelfinger expressed excitement over being a part of the Dark Crystal comic book.
"There's something extraordinarily universal about the theme of good vs. evil that seems to speak to so many people from so many walks of life. It's why I think The Dark Crystal has such a strong legacy, even to this day," Andelfinger said. "When I was offered the chance to play in that sandbox, exploring the facets of that conflict through some pivotal Age of Resistance characters—well, I couldn't say no."
The official description for the comic series reads as follows:
"Return to another world, another time, Before the Age of Wonder. The Skeksis rein over Thra, but there are distant echoes of rebellion. Gelfling and unlikely heroes emerge to champion what is good and just, but their paths to legend started long ago. Epic tales of adventure, magic, and mystery send us back in time to the Age of Resistance to witness the untold histories that forged these protectors of Thra."
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will premiere on Netflix on August 30. It will be followed by the prequel comic series which will be available starting September 25.
