Netflix’s New Series, Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance, Earns Positive Reviews From Fans And Critics

Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance just premiered today, August 30, on Netflix. Not even 24 hours in, but the series already opened to generally positive reviews from fans and critics alike.

The 10-episode series is a prequel to artist-filmmaker Jim Henson's The Dark Crystal, a dark fantasy, puppet animated film which debuted in 1982. The 80s film garnered global awards and recognitions in its time, particularly the Best Fantasy Film at Saturn Awards and the Best Dramatic Presentation nomination at The Hugo Awards.

From what we've seen so far, it seems like Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will follow the global footsteps of its predecessor. Film critics and hardcore fans of Jim Henson voiced out their approval with how the new series brought the world of Thra to life.

One TV Review from Variety magazine specifically pointed out how the series stayed true to its source material to satisfy the devoted fan base of Jim Henson's creation: "Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is a prime example of how television can do fantasy right — and how potent the combination of nostalgia and Netflix's deep pockets can be."

Another praise from USA Today has managed to convince fans that the prequel is worth watching: "Any fans who were worried about what "Age of Resistance" might do to their childhood memories will not be disappointed...It is faithful to the original while modernizing and expanding the story to make it more epic and more poignant."

Currently, Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is the talk of the town at Rotten Tomatoes and other definitive review sites. The series earned 87% and 100% ratings from Rotten Tomatoes' critics and users, respectively.

If you're still deciding on whether to watch the series or not, just know that Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance features star-studded actors to voice the Gelflings, including Star Wars' Mark Hamill (ShekTek), Kingsman's Taron Egerton (Rian), and Game of Thrones' Nathalie Emmanuel (Deet).
