Netflix Renews Castlevania For A Third Season

Netflix really likes its Castlevania series. The streaming site may have just recently dropped the second season of its anime adaptation of the popular videogame, but it looks like Netflix just recently renewed the series for a third season.

According to a new report by Deadline, Netflix has just ordered ten new episodes for the third season of Castlevania. That's another increase in the length of the seasons of the series – season 2 only had eight episodes while season one only had four.

Written by Warren Ellis and run by Adi Shankar, Netflix's animated Castlevania series has become exceedingly popular, with analyst calling the series one of the most popular digital original series in the US. The first season of the series did pretty well by earning a 79% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The second season did even better, nabbing a 100% score on the review aggregator site.

Expanding the series' length and its scope, the second season of Castlevania took down notes from the 1980's video game Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse and its direct sequel from 2005, Castlevania: Curse of Darkness. Together with his allies Alucard and Sypha Belnades, the vampire hunter Trevor Belmont goes after Dracula in an attempt to put an end to his reign of terror over Transylvania.

While Netflix hasn't given season 3 of Castlevania a release date just yet, the series is expected to return next year together with its principal voice cast.

Castlevania season 2 stars Richard Armitage as the series' Trevor Belmont, James Callis as Alucard, Alenjandra Reynoso as Sypha Belnades and Graham McTavish as Dracula. The series is available for streaming on Netflix.
