Black Knight director Choi Ui Seok spoke about making the upcoming Netflix Kdrama series after seeing the webcomic.

Black Knight is an upcoming six-part Kdrama series on Netflix starring Kim Woo Bin. It is based on the sci-fi webcomic, Delivery Knight, which explores the lives of people living in dystopian Korea amid heavy air pollution.

Kim Woo Bin plays the role of 5-8, a former refugee who starts working as a courier to deliver oxygen and other needs of the residents during the day. But when the night comes, he becomes the leader of the group of deliverymen, called Black Knight, to help other refugees.

Black Knight Director Recalls Liking Webcomic’s Story Instantly

Ahead of Black Knight release, director Choi Ui Seok appeared during a press conference for the series Wednesday during which he shared his goals when he was creating the Kdrama and how he made it.

“In the series, 5-8 dreams of utopia although he's living in a dystopia. Like the character, I also hope for everyone in the world to be equal and happy, and (the series) underlies that hope," he said, via The Korea Times.

The filmmaker revealed that he instantly liked the concept of couriers delivering oxygen when he first read the webcomic. He reportedly asked the original writer if he could make a little change and fortunately got the approval.

With that, he was able to create an interesting story that fans would be able to see soon.

Kim Woo Bin Shares Thoughts About Black Knight, His Character

During the same press conference, Kim Woo Bin reflected on his Black Knight character and explained how the plot could happen in real life especially after the world faced a situation where people had to wear masks — referring to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The actor then revealed that he immediately got curious about how the story would go after seeing the characters, especially his. He told the press that he always looks into the way his character thinks in every project he has.

In Black Knight, he delved into a situation to feel what his character feels since he was born a refugee.

Netflix will release theKdrama series on May 12.
