It's been quite some time since DC fans have had a good Batman story on the big screen and while there's so much controversy surrounding Warner Bros.' The Batman, everyone's hoping that the film will push through and do the struggling DC Expanded Universe some good.

Now, as Warner Bros. officially announcesThe Batman's new director, acclaimed fantasy writer Neil Gaiman reveals that he's had a Batman story that he's been waiting to tell for years. All fans have to is wait a little more. After being asked by a fan on Twitter whether he had a Batman story to write, this is what Gaiman wrote in return:

Given that Gaiman's pretty busy with the Starz television adaptation of his American Gods coming out later during Spring and a new fantasy series for Fox , it may take a while for fans to see Gaiman's Batman story. It's such a shame since Gaiman's writing would probably have made for a good basis for The Batman. I mean, who wouldn't want to see a Batman movie written by Neil Gaiman on the Big screen?

For now there's no news on The Batman's release date since the film is still in its early stages of development, but American Gods premieres on April 30 at 9/8c on Starz.
