Warner Bros. finally has a director for the controversial DC Expanded Universe film, The Batman.

Though fans were eager to see DC's Batman star Ben Affleck take the directorial reins for The Batman, the Hollywood celebrity and director decided to give up being the film's helmsman so that he could focus on his role as the Dark Knight. Right after Affleck stepped down from the seat two weeks ago, Warner Bros. went ahead and offered the film's directorial reigns to War for the Planet of Apes director, Matt Reeves. However, last Friday, reports came in that the talks between the two parts had broken down.

Now, an official statement by Reeves clears the matter up, confirming the director's decision to helm The Batman. Here is Reeves' statement:

"I have loved the Batman story since I was a child. He is such an iconic and compelling character, and one that resonates with me deeply. I am incredibly honored and excited to be working with Warner Bros. to bring an epic and emotional new take on the Caped Crusader to the big screen."

Tony Emmerich, Warner Bros. President and Chief Content Officer also sent out a statement to confirm the involvement of the DC director as well:

"We are thrilled to have Matt Reeves taking the helm of Batman, the crown jewel of our DC slate. Matt's deep roots in genre films and his evolution into an emotional world-building director make him the perfect filmmaker to guide the Dark Knight through this next journey."

While it's good to hear that The Batman has finally found its director, the publication has noticed that the official press release has failed to mention Affleck anywhere. Though his rendition of Bruce Wayne was well-liked, the Hollywood star certainly didn't like the outcome of Batman vs. Superman. Is Affleck still willing to be the DCEU's Caped Crusader?

For now, Affleck will return as Batman on the big screen when Justice League premieres on November 17, 2017.
