To celebrate the new year, My Hero Academia creator Kohei Horikoshi released a special illustration of Deku and friends wearing Mirko’s signature bunny outfit.

Typically, manga authors release illustrations and a short message to greet fans every new year. Horikoshi may have been a bit late with his greeting, but it quickly went viral on Twitter, with the illustration tweet getting over 500k likes.

Mirko: The MHA Fan Favorite

The artwork went viral likely because it features various characters of the series wearing Mirko’s Pro Hero outfit. After all, Mirko is a fan-favorite, especially among fan artists.

In the anime, Mirko was introduced late in season 4, and her beautiful, muscular build quickly caught the attention of fans all over the world.

Though Mirko was finally able to shine in season 6 as it showed her in action against the fearsome Nomus.

While she may not rank as highly in the latest MHA Japanese popularity poll, there’s no doubt that Mirko is the darling of international fans. After all, Twitter is filled with Mirko fanart.

Not to mention that the series’ official English Twitter account shared a new year artwork that features Mirko in a kimono.

Aside from being a popular character, it makes sense that Mirko is the highlight of MHA’s new year message; 2023 is the year of the rabbit in the Chinese calendar — a perfect fit given Mirko’s Rabbit Quirk.

On his official Twitter account, Horikoshi shared the special illustration along with a short message. In the tweet, he said thanks to fans of the series and that he hopes they continue supporting the series in 2023.

As for the illustration itself, it features Mirko in a white kimono while Ochaco, Jiro, Deku, Todoroki, and Kirishima are all wearing Mirko’s bunny outfits.

Bakugo is also in the background, though he did not get the memo about the costume.

Along with the art, Horikoshi also has some comments, including how Mirko is not happy with the restrictive Kimono while Jiro is embarrassed by the outfit.

Meanwhile, Deku and Kirishima are confidently posing despite some possible wardrobe malfunctions that had to be edited out.

Shortly after it was released, fans went into a frenzy with how much they loved the illustration. Many praised the detail of the art and how much they loved seeing Deku confidently wearing the bunny outfit.

While we probably won’t see Deku and his friends wearing this outfit in the anime, we will see more of them as the second cour of My Hero Academia Season 6 airs in the Winter 2023 season.
