Mushu will be Replaced by a Phoenix in the Live-Action Mulan

Disney stories are never complete without small animal sidekicks. The Little Mermaid had flounder, Aladdin had Abu, and Mulan had Mushu. Rumor has it though that the live-action Mulan is going to be replacing the jive-talking Mushu with a phoenix instead.

According to The DisInsider, a source close to the site has said that Mulan will be having a phoenix be her guide in the film instead. What's more, this seems to be confirmed by a leak of the production jackets which seem to have the film's logo on them:

For now, nothing official has been confirmed, but fans online have already started crying foul—which you could expect when any big franchise tries to make drastic changes to a beloved property. If anything, I think negative feedback might actually get Mushu the dragon back in the film, but I guess in these "woke" times, it might have be problematic to have a jive-talking dragon in ancient China.

Even if this movie isn't well-received though, I expect it to make a lot of money in the box office. Aladdin fell flat when it came to audiences, but the movie is now close to earning a billion in the box office. If anything, I'm sure a lot of fans who loved the original will probably be swayed to watch the movie, whether it have good reviews or not.

Mulan is the epic adventure of a fearless young woman who masquerades as a man in order to fight Northern Invaders attacking China. The eldest daughter of an honored warrior, Hua Mulan is spirited, determined and quick on her feet. When the Emperor issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army, she steps in to take the place of her ailing father as Hua Jun, becoming one of China's greatest warriors ever.

Mulan is set to hit theaters March 27, 2020.
