Mushoku Tensei’s Nanahoshi got the attention of viewers in the anime’s latest episode. That’s because the show once again showed the dark reality of the isekai genre with its impactful Nanahoshi scene.

While there are darker moments in other isekai, this scene stands out because of how realistic it is. At least, it’s a more realistic portrayal of what will happen to someone who gets transported into another world.

Even when the series began, Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation has already shown that it’s not your typical isekai anime where the protagonist gets an incredibly overpowered ability.

Of course, there are lots of shows that twist the isekai formula. For instance, KonoSuba goes full comedy while something like Re:Zero is on the other end of the spectrum with its darker story.

Mushoku Tensei does things a bit differently. While the series has some dark moments, it’s not as grim or edgy as other shows.

What it also adds is impressive worldbuilding, as well as a more realistic pace, at least for fantasy standards. It doesn’t show Rudeus Greyrat steamrolling through opponents like some other shows.

Moreover, Rudeus’ development is a key part of the story. Even though he’s basically a new person in this world, how he reacts and grows is still rooted in his past life.

Rudeus isn’t the only character from the real world. Another one like Rudeus is Nanahoshi Shizuka. Unlike Rudeus, she was transported into his world with her identity intact.

What also makes her different from Rudeus is that she’s well-adjusted in the real world, meaning she continues to long for home.

This is far from a typical isekai protagonist who is often an outsider in their previous life. In that sense, fans think that Nanahoshi is a more realistic portrayal of someone who gets transported into a fantasy world.

Due to her longing for home, Nanahoshi continues to look for ways to do so, to the point that she has a devastating mental breakdown in Episode 39 after her latest experiment fails.

On the episode’s Reddit discussion thread, fans found her scene to be incredibly impactful, especially as her voice actress did an excellent job.

Following the show’s latest episode, many praised Wakayama’s acting skills as she was able to convey Nanahoshi’s despair in her haunting breakdown scene.
