Mulan Set Photo Harkens to the Reflections Setpiece

Disney had just dropped the first image of Liu Yifei as Mulan yesterday, but now director Niki Caro has given us our first look of Liu on set, and it's harkening back to the original Reflections scene in the animated version.

Check it out:

We don't know exactly what part of the movie this is in, but it's probably the safest bet that it's right after Mulan's disastrous matchmaking scene. Then again, it could also be Mulan reflecting to herself while she's already in the men's camp. Either way, it makes for a pretty cool shot.

I'll admit, I'm not yet onboard when it comes to this live-action Mulan film. I understand that there's a lot of bank to be made with these adaptations, but all the rumors that have come out about the film have ended up pretty questionable. Brute villain Shan Yu has been replaced with an evil witch character, and it's said that Mulan has been granted powers in order to make her more powerful than the men.

I don't know about you, but I thought the entire point of the original movie was that Mulan set herself ahead purely from smarts and mettle. Now women only need powers to get ahead of the game?

Of course, these are just story rumors, and I'm still crossing my fingers that the whole film will get the message of the original.

Mulan is set to come out March 27, 2020.
