The Magic: The Gathering Mythic Championship IV is happening at Barcelona, Spain this weekend but American MTG player Brad Nelson won't be able to attend because of his expired passport.
Over on Twitter, Nelson shared the reason on Twitter. "Make sure your passport isn't within 3 months of expiring before you try to fly internationally," he wrote. "I'll be missing #MYTHICCHAMPIONSHIPIV and I feel really badly for the rest of #KMCGenesis. They've just worked so damn hard all season" The tweet came with the famous "Idiot Sandwich" GIF featuring master chef Gordon Ramsay.
Nelson may be missing the big Magic event but he sounds excited to watch the event this weekend. He posted another GIF of Spongebob Squarepants watching the tube while eating popcorn. "To everyone responding, thanks for the support, but it's not the end of the World," Nelson wrote. "Now I know so it won't happen again, and it's not like I was going to do well in Modern anyway. The silver lining is I get to finally see what it's like from the other side."
It's widely known that Nelson is a Standard format specialist so it's not surprising to see that comment anyway. The American MTG player is one of the 32 members of this year's Magic Pro League and he was the finalist of Mythic Championship III. Nelson has 19 Grand Prix Top 8's and 3 Mythic Championship (formerly called "Pro Tour") Top 8's on his belt, and he won the Player of the Year title in 2010.
The format for this Mythic Championship IV (paper) is Modern format and 3 packs of Modern Horizons booster packs will be used for the Draft portion.
The Mythic Championship IV will be streaming this weekend from Barcelona, Spain, and video coverage begins all three days at 9 a.m. (CEST)/ 7 a.m. UTC / 12 a.m. PST on twitch.tv/magic.
