Most Toys for Star Wars TROS Will be Delayed Because of Spoilers

Besides the release of Joker, Star Wars is also going to have Triple Force Friday this coming Oct. 4, and though we're getting some new merch for The Rise of Skywalker, that's not going to be most of it. As it turns out, a good chunk of the toys is going to be delayed.

According to Hasbro's Senior Director of Global Marketing Mike Ballog, the toys will be delayed because of spoilers to the film. Talking to CinemaBlend, Ballog explains:

"We have clear conversations about what can come out when, and what needs to stay under wraps. We work around things with that in mind. At least from a Hasbro standpoint, [the product on display is] maybe 30-35% of our full line."

Senior VP of Licensing at Lucasfilm Paul Southern also had this to say:

"The key thing here is when we release products a couple months in advance of the film, we are focusing on a very select group. There are products that you're not seeing, that you won't see until after the film comes out. Even the characters that we are releasing, we're not really giving you much narrative for them."

With The Rise of Skywalker ending the Sequel Trilogy, fans expect a lot of big reveals when it comes to the film. At best, the only material we've seen have been for the new characters as well as the returning heroes. I'm sure fans are also expecting a new look for Palpatine as well as maybe Force Ghost Luke. Who knows what other surprises are in store when it comes to TROS?

Besides the TROS figures, we're also getting merch for other upcoming Star Wars properties. For one, there are figures incoming for Disney+'s The Mandalorian. We're also getting some figures for the upcoming video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Those are sure to keep collectors distracted while they hunt for more Star Wars merch.

If anything, I'm expecting a lot of the merchandise to release two weeks after the release of the film/ Based on what happened with Avengers: Endgame, that's the appropriate amount of time to wait for most fans to catch the film. After that, you can start talking spoilers online. Of course, this is just my guess. Hasbro probably has a schedule set already.

Catch Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker when it comes out Dec. 20.
