Mortal Kombat Creator Wants Dwayne Johnson for Shao Kahn in Live-Action Sequel

We're still waiting for updates on a sequel to last year's Mortal Kombat movie but it looks like Ed Boon already has big plans for the next live-action adaptation of the video games. The creator of the franchise has just declared that Black Adam star Dwayne Johnson would be the perfect actor to play Shao Kahn in the film!

Ed Boon recently found an article where Dwayne Johnson teases an upcoming project based on a video game. Although the Red Notice star didn't indicate which title he will be working on, it inspired Boon to fancast Johnson as one of the characters he created. "He’d make a great Shao Kahn," Boon wrote with the thumbs-up emoji.

We're loving the idea of Dwayne Johnson playing Shao Kahn in Mortal Kombat. After all, the former wrestler can be a convincing villain and would give the Konqueror the right attitude. However, it is important to point out that Shao Kahn has not yet been confirmed to appear in the sequel. Nevertheless, we wouldn't be surprised if an official announcement is made soon.

In the meantime, we're just happy to know that Mortal Kombat 2 is actually happening. Deadline reports that the sequel is finally moving forward with Moon Knight scribe Jeremy Slater confirmed to work on the script. It has not yet been confirmed whether Simon McQuoid will return to direct the second movie.

The first Mortal Kombat film followed Cole Young, an MMA fighter who is thrust into a deadly tournament that spans dimensions. Young must join the other warriors of the Earthrealm in an epic tournament against the Outworld.

Mortal Kombat 2 has not yet been given an official release date. However, an announcement about the cast and crew could be made soon. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
