Morbius Director Confirms Kevin Feige is NOT Involved in the Controversial Post-Credits Scenes

WARNING: This article contains spoilers about the post-credits scenes of Morbius.

The post-credits scenes of Morbius have become a subject of fan discussions ever since it was released due to them being contradictory to what happened in the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. To recap, Michael Keaton's Adrian Toomes was transported from the MCU to the Sony-verse as a result of Doctor Strange's spell at the end of No Way Home even though it wasn't supposed to work that way as the MCU was Adrian's home universe.

In an interview with Uproxx, Morbius director Daniel Espinosa explained that the scheduling switch with Spider-Man: No Way Home resulted in some changes in terms of Adrian's appearance in the film which is why he only showed up in the post-credits scenes even though he was heavily featured in the trailers.

"The first thing that happened was that we had Michael Keaton because we were planning on doing this," Espinosa said. "But then when Spider-Man: No Way Home came out, it said, 'This is how the visual effects are.' And then the idea of having him just encountering him in that universe seemed too complicated, and then we put it in the end."

Espinosa iterated that he "didn't know" how Adrian's appearance would have worked better without No Way Home which is why it had to be addressed this way. Furthermore, he confirmed that Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige was not involved in the decision-making behind the post-credits scenes as it was only Sony who initiated the idea.

"That wasn’t done, that didn’t exist, so there were all these small things that had to be addressed," Espinosa continued to explain. "But I think that the concept of having different timelines were, I believe, came from Sony, not from Kevin Feige. It was Sony that initiated that idea. I think that Miles Morales that you have in Spider-Verse, I would bet your life on that you would have Miles Morales from the Spider-Verse in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at some point."

While it is a relief to hear that the confusing post-credits scenes didn't come from Feige, it is still worrying that Sony decided to go in that direction since there is no logical explanation behind it and it doesn't really hold up with what they clearly established in No Way Home. Since Morbius was moved to a release date after the MCU film, they decided to make these changes despite the loopholes and now it has become a subject of debate and frustration from fans.

As much as Espinosa was able to explain the jarring decisions behind Adrian Toomes' appearance in Morbius, it is still not a great explanation as they weren't able to clarify the logic behind it and make sense of how Doctor Strange's spell can have such an anomaly effect on that. It's also clear that they were pushing for it to happen as they want to establish the Sinister Six very soon, which is also causing a lot of confusion and concerns amongst fans instead of excitement.
