Morbius Director Breaks Silence on Marvel Crossover Possibilities

Following Spiderman: No Way Home's enormous box-office success, Sony Pictures is continuing to focus on the Spider-Verse expansion, that will include the likes of some potential addition to the Spider-Verse slate, Tom Hardy's Venom, Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Kraven: The Hunter, and the upcoming Jared Leto's Morbius.

While Morbius is only a week away before its theatrical release, rather than a superhero, Jared Leto's debut into the live-action film will be as an anti-hero. Despite existing in another universe outside the MCU, one potential crossover being teased is Michael Keaton's comeback as his Spiderman: Homecoming villain role, The Vulture. Aside from Keaton's mysterious role, fans have wondered if there's more possible crossover along the line for Morbius.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Morbius director Daniel Espinosa sat down to discuss the upcoming Marvel film. When asked about Morbius' place in a very vast cinematic universe, especially if Morbius is tied with any Spiderman character, the director responded, "Morbius takes place in what you would call the Sony-Verse. If you remember, when Sony released Spider-Verse, they introduced the idea of different timelines that then later Kevin Feige with Marvel took up. It is an idea that has existed within the studio for a long time. We are in what some people call the Venom-Verse. But these worlds have endless possibilities of interacting and trading people or information. Who knows what the future will hold?"

Even after the mindblowing three-generation reunion of Peter Parker in Sony's Spiderman: No Way Home, it's not a guarantee that Jared Leto's Morbius can interact with other MCU characters in the future. However, Marvel is reportedly crafting a Spider-Verse that can easily include new Spiderman origin characters from Marvel Comics like Madame Web, Kraven: The Hunter, and of course, Morbius. It's also worth noting that Tom Holland and Tom Hardy's MCU characters have been seeding post-credit scenes that hint at a future Venom-Spiderman crossover project. So, there's definitely more for the Spider-Verse.

Knowing the MCU, they're certainly full of tricks. And as the Marvel Cinematic Studios continues to expand, a lot of storylines can still be explored, like the Spider-Verse.

Morbius will premiere in theaters on April 1.
