Moon Knight's Ethan Hawke Believes Arthur Harrow is The Show's Good Guy

Ethan Hawke is currently taking the spotlight as Marvel's first big bad for a Disney+ series slated for 2022, with his character Arthur Harrow in Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight. Harrow is a cult leader who serves the Egyptian god Ammit, who Harrow also wants to resurrect.

While it's clear that Arthur Harrow is the main villain for Moon Knight, Ethan Hawke thinks Harrow is actually the good guy. According to executive producer Grant Curtis, while speaking to Marvel.com, Hawke has previously insisted that he sees his character as the hero of the latest Disney+ show. "I was listening to Ethan talk the other day — and obviously he's the 'villain,' quote, unquote, of the show, he's the antagonist," Curtis explained. "

Hawke said, 'I can make a very good argument that Harrow is actually the protagonist of the show. He's the good guy.' There's [a theory] that what Arthur Harrow’s talking about is actually not that diabolical. There are actually some really interesting things in his theology."

At this point, it is hard to identify if Harrow's motivations serve the world or just his personal interest alone. With three episodes unveiled by Disney+, Harrow is still a complex character and all we know about him is that he was the former avatar of Khonshu, and is now following Ammit who he wants to revive.

In a recent interview, Hawke revealed what drew him to Harrow's character, "The uber-rich villain mastermind isn't interesting to me. I love the ones who believe that they're a good person and that's why they have to kill you. That, I find really terrifying."

A villain who thinks they are doing a greater good for the world is certainly more terrifying, as evidenced by the Infinity Saga's big bad Thanos, who wiped out half of the population of the universe in order to save the rest. And for Harrow, his desire to resurrect Ammit is undoubtedly questionable, especially how the Egyptian god judges anyone’s soul whether they are good or bad without any consideration. Harrow’s interest in locating Ammit’s tomb is also confusing because we’re not entirely sure if he really wants to revive the Egyptian god, or harvest the god’s power.

We will unravel more of Arthur Harrow and the character's villainous motivation in the upcoming weeks of Moon Knight. For now, we can catch up with the latest episodes 1 to 3, now streaming on Disney+.
