According to Deadline, Money Heist star Alba Flores is reportedly helming a Sci-Fi Thriller, Ulterior, from Matt Brodlie and Jonathan Kier’s Upgrade Productions and Spanish outfit Morena Films.
Alba Flores is known for her roles as Saray Vargas in Vis a Vis (Locked Up), but probably more as Nairobi in La Casa de Papel (Money Heist), and now, not only is she helming the Sci-Fi Thriller movie, but she will also be its executive producer alongside Morena’s Pedro Uriol (Disney Plus’ The Invisible Girl).

Ulterior is created by Money Heist director Alex Rodrigo and Vida Perfecta’s Manuel Burque. The film centers a young singer-slash influencer who wakes up in a world she doesn’t recognize. A world where humans are given the chance to virtually connect to a simulation of their own lives. The protagonist, named Ada, strives to play along in an attempt to escape to real life and unravel the mystery behind their existence, with the help of a mysterious stranger.

Brodlie and Kier tease that their Ulterior movie is a “chilling and complex science fiction history.” They add, “Manuel Burque and Alex Rodrigo have crafted a visionary and timely thriller and we’re excited to bring their distinct and authentic voices forward.”
The mission of Upgrade Productions is aimed at working on international content, by which they advocate non-English-language films and series business. In partnership with Germany’s Constantin Film (Resident Evil, Wrong Turn), they focus on local language content. Upgrade is also currently developing My Teacher, Mr. Kim with Mexican filmmaker Celso Garcia, Spain’s The Cage (La Jaula), Australia’s Sausages (working title) and Untitled 1982 World Cup (working title) with Italian outfit Cloud 9 Film.
