Money Heist Korea’s Lee Won Jong Impressed By Jeon Jong Seo’s Portrayal of Tokyo

Lee Won Jong talks about portraying a doting father in Money Heist Korea and his experience working alongside a star-studded cast.

Besides the 56-year-old actor, Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area cast includes Yoo Ji Tae as Professor, Park Hae Soo as Berlin, Jeon Jong Seo as Tokyo, Kim Yoon Jin as Seon Woo Jin, and more.

In the Netflix adaptation, Lee Won Jong plays Moscow, a skilled miner who was in and out of prison because of a series of theft.

In hopes of having a decent life with his son, he joined the heist after being recruited by Professor. Moreover, he also convinced his only son, Denver, played by Kim Ji Hoon to join the group, and promised him that it will be their last illegal mission before living a normal life.

As Money Heist Korea gained popularity around the world, cast members including Lee Won Jong sparked the interest of viewers.

Lee Won Jong Admits Feeling Pressure to Play Moscow

After the original Money Heist or La Casa De Papel was released on Netflix in 2017, the crime series created a massive craze, making it the top Netflix series for weeks.

Five years later, it was remade in Korean with additional characters.

As for Lee Won Jong, his character was initially played by the 58-year-old Spanish actor Paco Tous.

In an interview obtained by iMBC, the South Korean actor admitted that he felt “pressure” playing Moscow because of the series’ popularity.

However, Lee Won Jong explained that the Korean version has some similarities and differences from the original Moscow.

For starters, he grew a beard similar to the original character however, their emotions toward his son were portrayed differently in the Kdrama.

He says that Moscow in Money Heist Korea expresses the “unique characteristics” of his character as compared to Paco Tous’s role.

As for the challenging part, he said that it was the scene where Moscow learned that Denver became a murderer after killing an innocent hostage, saying that he had to convey intense emotions of Moscow.

From playing Moscow to working with various talented actors, Lee Won Jong said that he was impressed by how Jeon Jong Seo played Tokyo.

In the Netflix series, Tokyo, which was initially portrayed by Ursula Corbero, is a fearless North Korean soldier who wants to live her South Korean dream.

For Lee Won Jong, he mentioned Jeon Jong Seo as the perfect actress to play Tokyo.

Aside from the stunts, her role also has intense emotional scenes, especially with her confrontation with Berlin, played by Park Hae Soo.

Apart from Jeon Jong Seo, Lee Won Jong also praised Park Hae Soo for playing the role of Berlin.

Per Osen, he described the actor as “one of the most anticipated male juniors in the future” who “will soon become an actor representing South Korea.

To recall, Park Hae Soo was also the main character in the blockbuster Netflix series Squid Game, playing the antagonist character alongside Lee Jung Jae, Wi Ha Joon, and Jung Ho Yeon.
