Mission Impossible: Fallout Director Wants to Helm Star Trek Movie

Director Chris McQuarrie had recently found himself in the spotlight after the success of Mission Impossible: Fallout and a lot of people are wondering just what he wants to do next. He already said he's not interested in helming a Star Wars movie, but he would be open to going boldly where no one has gone before.

During a Q&A session hosted by Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, a fan has asked if McQuarrie was interested in doing to Star Trek. Liefeld posted up McQuarrie's response:

For now, the Trek films seem to be in a bit of trouble, what with Chris Pine dropping out of negotiations. Some people though, think that this is just a temporary snag, and Pine will eventually come back to reprise the role of Captain James Kirk.

It's said that S.J. Clarkson is currently set to direct Trek 4 with Quentin Tarantino in line for Trek 5. We don't know if there will ever be a sixth movie, but hopefully, McQuarrie can be considered. A lot of people were reluctant to have action director Justin Lin take over for Star Trek Beyond, but that movie turned out fantastic. No doubt the same could happen with McQuarrie taking the helm.

So far we don't know what McQuarrie has in line for his directing career, but it's said that he's been courted for DC films like the Man of Steel sequel and Green Lantern Corps. Nothing has been confirmed as of now, but hopefully, we get an update before the year ends.

No release date has been announced for Star Trek 4.
