Patrick Stewart Shares First Photo Of His Star Trek Return In New Picard Series

Star Trek fans were pretty ecstatic when they heard that Star Trek legend Patrick Stewart was going to reprise his role as Jean-Luc Picard in his very own CBS All Access series.

The X-Men franchise actor was the lead actor in Gene Roddenberry's phenomenally popular 1980s Star Trek series, The Next Generation. The series drew in 27 million viewers when it premiered back in September 987, and The Next Generation ran for more than 176 episodes on CBS television.

Now, with is very own Star Trek series on the way, Stewart gives fans their very first look at his journey back to the Star Trek franchise.

Taking to Twitter, the Star Trek actor posted a brand new photo showing himself at the start of his journey together with his new series writers and producers Kirsten Beyer, Michael Chabon, Akiva Goldsman, Diandra Pendleton-Thompson and James Duff.

Though some Star Trek fans have been hoping that the other cast members of The Next Generation would be joining Stewart's movie, the new series is set to take place two decades after Picard and his crew were together during the events of Star Trek: Nemesis.

"He may not be a captain anymore," Stewart hinted when he told fans that he was returning to the franchise at Star Trek Las Vegas."He may not be the Jean-Luc that you recognize and know so well. It may be a very different individual. Someone who has been changed by his experiences. 20 years will have passed...We have no scripts as yet, we're just talking, talking, talking storylines. It will be, I promise you, I guarantee it, something very, very different, but it will come to you with the same passion and determination and love of the material and love of our followers and our fans exactly as we had it before."

While it might be disappointing that we won't get to see the rest of the TNG, we can't wait to see new stories from the Star Trek franchise.

Picard's Star Trek series is expected to premiere sometime in 2019.
