Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 is scheduled to premiere in theaters on July 14, 2023.

The film was initially set to debut on July 23, 2021, but the date was pushed back because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was first rescheduled to November 19, 2021, and then it was moved to May 27, 2022. The movie release date was again moved to September 30, 2022, before it was finally settled into its current released date of July 14, 2023.

When Did Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 Start Filming?

Dead Reckoning was supposed to start filming on February 20, 2022, in Venice. The entire production team was meant to film in Venice for three weeks before moving to Rome, where filming was supposed to be held for 40 days. The initial schedule was scrapped, though, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and there was an outbreak in Italy.

Filming officially resumed on September 6, 2020, but was once again put on hold by October 2020 while the team was in Italy after 12 set members tested positive for COVID-19. Filming resumed after one week.

The production team moved to the Middle East to film several scenes and wrapped up in that location in February 2021. By April 20, the team filmed a train wreck scene in Levinsham, North Yorkshire, United Kingdom.

The team had to half production for 14 days in June 2021 when some team members tested positive for COVID-19. After the pause in production, the team continued filming in Birmingham’s Grand Central Station by August 2021 and officially wrapped up by September.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 2 was supposed to also start filming on August 5, 2022, alongside the first movie. These plans fell through because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The second movie was then rescheduled to July 7, 2023, but was pushed back to June 28, 2024.

Yes, Tom Cruise will continue doing his own stunts for the first Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning movie. During the 2021 CinemaCon, Paramount released exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of Cruise performing a stunt that he calls his “most dangerous stunt ever.” In the video, Cruise was riding a motorcycle up a ramp that led to a cliff before jumping off the motorcycle and parachuting to the ground.

Dead Reckoning director Christopher McQuarrie talked about how the movie will explore the emotional development of the cast in his interview on the Light the Fuse podcast.

When we went into making Fallout, I said to Tom, ‘I really want to make this more of an emotional journey for [Ethan Hunt]. Going into this, I said, ‘I want to take what we learned from Fallout and apply it to every character in the movie. I want everyone to have an emotional arc. … I just want the movie to have more feeling across the board.
