Milla Jovovich Fights Massive Dragons in First Trailer for Monster Hunter

Though the movies have been considered terrible, the Resident Evil films still make a lot of money. Now director Paul W.S. Anderson is looking to find success with another video game movie Monster Hunter, and we just got the first trailer.

Here's the synopsis:

Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity. When an unexpected sandstorm transports Captain Artemis (Milla Jovovich) and her unit (TI Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta) to a new world, the soldiers are shocked to discover that this hostile and unknown environment is home to enormous and terrifying monsters immune to their firepower. In their desperate battle for survival, the unit encounters the mysterious Hunter (Tony Jaa), whose unique skills allow him to stay one step ahead of the powerful creatures. As Artemis and Hunter slowly build trust, she discovers that he is part of a team led by the Admiral (Ron Perlman). Facing a danger so great it could threaten to destroy their world, the brave warriors combine their unique abilities to band together for the ultimate showdown.

I'll admit, the movie had done a good job hiding the fact that Jovovich's character is supposed to be a modern military soldier that gets thrust into a fantasy world. I didn't even expect Ron Perlman to have a role. Do you think that casting had anything to do with Jovovich being in the Hellboy reboot?

This is also just my observation, but I think the Guardians of the Galaxy line in the trailer is supposed to be a nod to both GOTG and Suicide Squad--the meme being the line, "What are we, some kind of Suicide Squad?"

Though the premise is kind of silly, I think the whole point of Monster Hunter is going to be about the spectacle. I mean, the costumes and giant weapons look passable, but the monsters in the trailer are going to be the real draw in the movie. I thought the dragons in Game of Thrones looked good, but the dragons here are fantastic.

Monster Hunter is set to come out on Dec. 30.
