Milla Jovovich Wields Giant Flaming Blades in New Still from Monster Hunter

Milla Jovovich has been the star of the incredibly cheesy Resident Evil franchise, but she's looking to jump into another video game world with Monster Hunter. Just in, we have a new still of her from the movie, and it looks like she's wieding Kratos' Blades of Athena from God of War.

Talking to Empire, director Paul W.S. Anderson confirms that Jovovich is playing a completely original character. He says, "I wrote the role of Artemis for Milla as the avatar for the player, so she could be a grounded, relatable real-world character who is fresh to the world of Monster Hunter." Jovovich continues, "Yeah, she's not based on a character from the game. Paul wrote her as the captain of a team of Army Rangers that go in to rescue their colleagues."

What's fun is, Jovovich had to play the game herself to get into character, and Artemis was written around Jovovich's experience playing Monster Hunter. The armor Artemis wears in the film is the same as Jovovich's game avatar, and after checking out multiple weapons, she eventually settled on dual blades thinking they would ‘look really beautiful in an action sequence.'

With director Anderson behind other video game titles like Mortal Kombat and the Resident Evil franchise, I'm sure Monster Hunter is going to be another B-rated action film that we don't have to take too seriously. While they are critically panned, I'm sure there's still some fun to be had with them; I mean, why else would they keep making these movies?

Monster Hunter is set for a release on Sept. 4, 2020.
