Melissa McCarthy Address The Backlash To The Ghostbusters Reboot

There was a whole lot of controversy when Columbia Pictures decided to mix it up and cast a group of female comedians in Paul Feig's Ghostbusters reboot. Though there really isn't anything wrong with diversity, fans felt like the studio chose to switch the gender of the original film's team to cater to the demand for representation and for social progressiveness.

Speaking in an interview with Yahoo, one of Ghostbusters' lead stars, Melissa McCarthy, has now decided to respond to the backlash. In the interview, the actress not only asks whether Ghostbusters fans are afraid of women but she also wonders what might be wrong with those who claim the reboot "ruined their childhood."

"Kind of jarring that in this day and age, that that is something that someone...like, if you said, 'You ruined my childhood,' I remember that was a thing, which I thought, 'I'm pretty sure you've got a weird childhood. If a movie, 35 years later, is ruining your childhood, don't blame us, you've got your own issues,'" the actress told the publication. "I just don't know why people are so afraid of women. It's fascinating to me. And I don't know how to explain it, other than, as the mom of two daughters, I just always say, ‘There you go. Be you. Don't back down.'"

Of course, while fans disinterest in the Ghostbusters reboot didn't necessarily mean that they were sexist, some have been throwing so many sexist remarks at the cast and crew of the movie ever since they took a look at the trailers for the show. Now, with poor reviews following its tail, it seems like the Ghostbusters reboot won't ever get a sequel to its name.
