Prince Harry recently graced the UN General Assembly, where he gave a speech about the late Nelson Mandela. Prior to his appearance, there were already questions about why the Duke of Sussex had to be the one to give the important address. After he finished his speech, Meghan Markle's husband was once again criticized for reportedly being filled with “self-righteous anger.”
Prince Harry’s Nelson Mandela Speech Criticized
“Harry’s speech was much the same as his other recent offerings, combining a sense of self-righteous anger with a clunking reminder of his (and his family’s) right-on credentials,” royal author Alexander Larman said (via Express).
Days after Prince Harry gave his speech, royal expert Neil Sean weighed in on the matter and said that Markle wanted answers as to why there were so many empty seats inside the venue while her husband was giving his address.
“It must have been very difficult for Harry. It kind of looked like a British pantomime that hadn't sold out. All those empty seats are never a good look. According to the UN, it wasn't really that well publicized. Rubbish. This was put into the world's media. Everybody would have known about it so what was the particular problem?” Sean said (via Express).

The royal expert added that Markle must not have been OK with the fact that she and Prince Harry traveled all the way to New York for the latter’s speech, but they only received a lukewarm response from the public.
A similar incident happened when Prince Harry and Markle attended the queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Back in June, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex also received a lukewarm response from royal fans who saw them in person. In fact, on their way to the chapel, the couple was also booed by the crowds.
Since quitting The Firm, Prince Harry and Markle have received mostly criticism from the public. But it’s unclear if this has something to do with why there were a lot of empty seats while the Duke of Sussex was giving a speech at the UN General Assembly.
Prince Harry Accused Of Giving Nelson Mandela Disservice Following His UN Speech
Larman was one of the many people who slammed Prince Harry for being preachy and righteous after hearing his 20-minute speech.
“Making the speech while clothed in the enduring righteousness of Mandela has given it an importance that, based on its contents, it once again doesn’t deserve,” he said.
Stefanie Cargill, a senior producer at MSNBC, called Prince Harry’s speech a disservice to Mandela.
As of writing, Prince Harry has not responded to the criticisms.
