The Duchess of Sussex has received intense backlash after joining the royal family. Some accused her of lying, others called her a narcissist, and some claimed she was brainwashing Prince Harry.
Despite the criticisms hurled at Markle, many also support her. However, in terms of popularity, Prince William and Prince Harry's stepmom, Queen Camilla, has reportedly received better approval ratings than Markle.
In a recent poll, Markle received an approval rating of -13 in the United States. Her score is five points lower than King Charles' wife, who received -8, Express reported.
According to Showbiz CheatSheet, the consistent negative commentary about Prince Harry's wife may have affected the public's opinion of her. There are also speculations that the Sussexes are already overexposed.
The couple dropped their Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan last month. Earlier this month, Prince Harry also released his memoir Spare. The outlet noted that there was also a possibility that the people were already sick of them.
Kate Middleton Twice As Popular As Meghan Markle Stateside
Last year, a poll published by The Sun revealed a surprising result — Kate Middleton was more popular than her sister-in-law in the United States, even if Prince Harry and Markle were based in California.
Based on the poll, 68.2 percent of Americans chose the Princess of Wales as their favorite royal. Only 31 percent voted for Prince Harry's wife.
"Kate has become an even bigger superstar without ever setting foot here," American royal commentator Christopher Andersen said of Middleton.
"She embodies everything Americans expect in a princess destined to become Queen — beauty, grace, regal bearing and the ability to connect. Whatever royal scandal is making headlines, the Duchess of Cambridge sails above it all."
Royal expert Kinsey Schofield added that Markle wanted to be the Queen of America. However, she's never been less popular.
