Meghan Markle and Prince Harry shocked their avid followers when they announced their decision to step back from their senior royal roles in January 2020. Following their shocking Megxit, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex settled down in Montecito, California, alongside kids Archie and Lilibet.

While in America, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry continue getting harsh remarks and condemnations from their critics and the British media. The Sussex couple was even accused of talking against the royal family when they opened up about life in the palace during a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Amid speculations that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are likely to make a comeback as working senior royals once Prince Charles becomes king, a royal expert stated the Sussex couple would not return to the royal life as it would mean scrapping much of the new image they have cultivated in the U.S. Keep on reading to know more details.

Meghan Markle And Prince Harry's Royal Return Impossible?

Royal Holloway professor Pauline Maclaran explained that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry would not reinsert themselves into the Firm because it would undo the brand they have cultivated in the U.S. She even described how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's new image across the pond would have to be axed for them to return to the royal life.

This, according to Pauline, is something that neither Meghan Markle and Prince Harry nor the palace are likely to want. The professor told Express UK:

“It’s hard to envision a split timetable and I can’t see that working. It might be some more project-based co-operation that would be beneficial to both.”

Pauline Maclaran also dismissed the possibility of Prince Charles bringing Meghan Markle and Prince Harry back into his "slimmed down" monarchy should he takes over the throne from Queen Elizabeth.

The professor stated:

“I don’t think there’s a remote chance they would come back into the royal fold. They would definitely have to significantly alter their branding in order to do this.”

The Royal Fever co-author furthered that there was a lack of will to do so from both the Sussex couple and the palace even without this consideration. Pauline said:

"There is no indication that anyone would want this on either side."

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's rift with the Royal Family has not come without cost to the royal couple. Most, if not all, royal fans are aware that the brother of Prince William has been stripped of a number of his military patronages and was banned to wear a military uniform to certain levels.

Meghan Markle, for her part, also lost her prestigious patronage of the National Theater, which is now conferred on Camilla Parker-Bowles. However, the former Suits actress and Prince Harry have retained their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles.

Though some retention of the said titles likely indicates a future return, royal commentator Cele Otnes said that it is counter-productive to the brand they are cultivating in the U.S. The professor shared the epithet of Duke and Duchess became "meaningless" because they have lost the ability to use the HRH titles.

She went on to say that:

“If you're not involved in the Royal Family, and you can't use the HRH, and the Queen has said to you, ‘Fine, if you don't want to be involved, you're not involved.’ What does it mean? It’s a nickname you give yourself.”

Cele Otnes also commented Meghan Markle and Prince Harry misunderstood the importance of titles to an American audience. Sans the royal family as socially-respected structure, she shared:

“Americans don't care about these titles because they're not in our social structure. We don't have the sort of reverence of these titles.”

Prince Harry Terrified Meghan Markle Would Leave Him?

Meanwhile, it was reported that Prince Harry feared Meghan Markle would dump him when the media started hovering around his ladylove in 2016. The youngest son of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana called out the "wave of abuse and harassment" that was directed towards Meghan when they were still dating.

Sources claimed the move of Prince Harry came from a fearful side than a protective one. The Duke of Sussex's communications secretary, Jason Knauf, lambasted "the racial undertones of comment pieces" and "the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments."

An unnamed source told The Times:

"It did feel like that if the palace was not able to stand up and support his girlfriend, against some of that disgusting coverage... then who in their right mind would ever consider entering into a relationship [with him] in the future? He was very exercised about some of that coverage. He definitely felt that if nothing was done to support here, then she would be, 'I'm not sure this is what I signed up for.'"

Another unidentified tipster told the media outlet:

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry eventually tied the knot in 2018 before leaving their royal duties in 2020. While Harry returned to British soil twice already, Meghan has not made a comeback in the U.K. since their infamous exit two years ago.
