Meghan Markle would need to renounce her royal title if she would want to join the presidential race, according to an expert. The Duchess of Sussex' royal titles will reportedly not help her political career and will only be damaging.

Meghan Markle Advised To Renounce Royal Title

Us Constitutional Expert Mark Tushnet spoke with Express about Meghan Markle's royal title and the rumors about her running for president. For him, the duchess should ditch the honor because it would only damage her political career.

"As a practical matter, though, she'd have to renounce her titles to run," Tushnet told the outlet. "Politically, it would be quite damaging, I think, for her to retain the titles."

He continued, "Opponents will seize on anything, and this will be a hook to say 'well she’s not really a true American.'"

The rumors about Markle running for president have been making rounds for over a year already. However, the duchess has not addressed the speculations yet. But some of her family members already spoke about the issue.

Meghan Markle Family Members On Her Presidential Bid Rumors

Meghan Markle has been estranged from her father and half-siblings. She hasn't spoken to her dad, Thomas Markle Sr., after the latter canceled her attendance at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's royal wedding. Markle is also not on speaking terms with her siblings Thomas Markle Jr. and Samantha Markle.

In a recent interview with New Idea, Thomas Jr. said he wouldn't be surprised if his younger sister would run for office. For him, Markle is ambitious and has the capacity to join the presidential race.

"She obviously has that personality and that determination and drive... it wouldn't surprise me [if she ran for president]," Thomas Jr. said per Daily Mail.

"I just know, whatever endeavor she endures and puts her hands on, she will do good things. I wish her the best of luck, but absolutely if that's what she's going to put her sights on, she'll go for it," Markle's brother added.

However, their dad didn't think she was planning to make a presidential bid. Thomas Sr. called the rumors of Markle running for president a "joke."

"From beginning to end, I think it’s a complete joke," Thomas told the host. "I don't think she has any ambition to be a mayor. I don’t think she has any ambition to be a governor or president. I don't think that's in her mind at all."
