MCU Star Josh Brolin Reveals He Turned Down Major Jurassic World Role

Last week, we learned that Josh Brolin almost played Batman in the DCEU, a role that eventually went to Ben Affleck who himself has become beloved for the role. While things went well for the actor given that he played Thanos later on in the MCU, as it turns out, there was also another iconic character that he almost got to play.

Speaking with Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast, Brolin discussed the time when he turned down the opportunity to play Owen Grady in Jurassic World. However, he didn't show any regret in not playing the character as he thinks that Chris Pratt is a better suit for the role.

"And Jurassic World, with all respect to Steven [Spielberg], I could not picture me doing it," Brolin candidly said. "I could not picture me being that guy. And I’m very, very happy, based on my decision, of what Chris does with it because I think Chris is the right guy. When I saw Chris in Guardians of the Galaxy, and I was just like, ‘What?’ I mean, we all were. I even said it to him embarrassingly at a party, ‘Dude!’ So, I think I knew from a big picture standpoint that somebody else would do a much better job than me."

At this point, it's kind of difficult to imagine any actor other than Pratt playing the role of Owen Grady given the swag that he gave on portraying the character and he has also become iconic even with just the two films where we saw film play the character so far. Even though Brolin didn't end up nabbing the role, we can all agree that Pratt is a wonderful choice and perhaps a much better actor for the character.

As for Brolin, despite not ending up playing the two aforementioned roles, everything still went well for him as he was able to give us one of the best villain performances in a comic book movie with Thanos in the MCU Avengers films as well as playing another Marvel character Cable in Deadpool 2. He also recently played Gurney Halleck in Dune, a role that he is expected to reprise in the sequel. Either way, he still has a flourishing career as he was able to nab other major roles in franchises.
